The untitled Peaky Blinders film is an upcoming British film based on the period crime drama TV series Peaky Blinders directed by Tom Harper, who directed the first season of the series, and written by Steven Knight. The film will also serve as a continuation of the series. [2] [3] Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby. [4] The film was announced in January 2021. Following the announcement of the last series of Peaky Blinders, Knight clarified that, it had been decided to produce a feature-length movie in place of a seventh series. Knight had previously suggested the film would arrive sometime in 2024, but, with filming beginning in September 2024, Knight has now hinted at a 2025 release date. [5] [6]
Set during World War II, moving forward a few years after the end of the TV series, which took place in the aftermath of World War I. [3] [7]
Stephen Graham, Amber Anderson and James Frecheville are expected to reprise their roles as Hayden Stagg, Lady Diana Mitford and Jack Nelson from TV series Peaky Blinders (series 6). [b] [8]
Following the announcement that the sixth series would be the last of Peaky Blinders, Knight clarified that, following the year-long production hiatus in 2020, it had been decided to produce a feature-length movie in place of a seventh series, with other connected television series potentially following. [9]
In June 2024, the film had been officially greenlit by Netflix, with Tom Harper directing and Steven Knight writing the screenplay, and Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Thomas "Tommy" Shelby. [10]
Filming will start in September 2024 in Digbeth, Birmingham, and is expected to be released in 2025. [5] [6] [11]
