UPES is a private university located in Dehradun, comprising eight schools: School of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Design, School of Law, School of Commerce. , School of Health Sciences and Technology, School of Modern Media and School of Liberal Studies. [1] UPES was established in 2003 through the UPES Act, 2003 of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Since 2019 the university belongs to the Dutch educational federation Global University Systems. [2] UPES has expanded significantly since its inception, and now has two campuses—Energy Acres and Knowledge Acres—located in Bidholi and Kandoli villages in Dehradun district. The main business office of the university is in New Delhi.
UPES is ranked among the best private universities in India, especially for its law, management, engineering and design courses. [3] In 2022, the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Ministry of Education ranked the university among the best 65 institutions in India. [4] UPES offers over 100 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses, with a combined acceptance rate of around 55%.
