Two Roosters Ice Cream is an ice cream parlor founded in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, with five locations located around The Research Triangle. Founded by NC State alumnus Jared Plummer, the parlor began operations in March 2015 out of a travel trailer-turned ice cream truck. By serving unique flavors like 'grilled cheese' and 'pizza', Plummer gained enough public support and funds to open the first brick-and-mortar location in Raleigh in 2017. In subsequent years, a further four locations have been opened in Durham and Wake Forest, with a sixth location expected to be opened in Cary in June 2024.
The parlor has won the award for best local ice cream four times in the annual WRAL Voter's Choice Awards and was named one of the best ice cream parlors in the nation by USA Today in 2019 and 2023.

The founder of the parlor, Jared Plummer, was inspired by his childhood to make the business someday when he and other neighborhood kids churned and created ice cream at his grandmother's house. On both sides of his grandmother's doorway hung black wooden roosters, which later inspired the name of the parlor. [2] [3] Plummer attended North Carolina State University where he studied at the Poole College of Management. [4] Here, he received a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business in 2005 and a Master of Accounting in 2007. [4] After earning his Masters, Plummer worked as a public accountant for eight years before he rediscovered his passion for ice cream. [4] Plummer later said in a 2021 Poole College interview his time working as an accountant helped him to feel confident in starting his own business. [4]
Beginning operations in March 2015, Plummer first operated out of turquoise and white travel trailer-turned ice cream truck, attached to a Ford F-100. [1] Plummer moved the truck around to festivals and outside breweries to spread awareness and bring in sales, but most often remained parked outside The Cookery restaurant in Durham. [5] [6] The business grew in popularity by offering unique flavors like ' grilled cheese' and ' pizza', [1] allowing Plummer in 2017 to move the business into its first brick-and-mortar location at the Greystone Village Shopping Center in North Raleigh. [5] [6] With the opening of the parlor, the ice cream truck began to only be used for events like weddings around The Research Triangle. [3] The parlor's first menu consisted of what Plummer found to be the most popular flavors when operating the truck. [5]
In 2018, the parlor opened a pop-up location on Person Street Plaza in downtown Raleigh, which became a permanent location after becoming locally popular. [5] In 2020, the parlor opened its third location at the Golden Belt Campus in Durham. [5] On July 6, 2021, the parlor opened its third location in Raleigh, [7] and on August 12, 2023, opened its fifth location total and first in Wake Forest at The Factory off South Main Street. In late 2023 or early 2024, the parlor also began to operate two small locations inside the PNC Arena in Raleigh, with a stand located at Section 116 and a cart at Section 110. [3] [10] In June 2024, the parlor has announced plans to open a sixth location at the Waverly Place Shopping Center in Cary. [3] [11] Despite the recent expansions, Plummer has announced he has no intention of making the business national, opting to stay in the Raleigh metro area where he started, [3] and embracing the friendly rivalry against other local parlors Andia's Ice Cream and FRESH. The parlor has eleven "forever flavors" of ice cream that do not change between the seasons. On top of these, a series of new ice cream is released monthly, [3] [12] which are either picked out by the parlor or decided in guest collaborations. [3] [5] One annually recurring collaboration and Plummer's favorite, according to a 2024 The News & Observer article, is named "kid chef", where local kids submit ice cream flavors and the six most inventive are picked to make up the monthly series. [3] These speciality flavors are chosen to celebrate specific seasons or themes, such as Ice Cream for Breakfast Day in February or Cracker Jacks flavored ice cream for baseball season. Flavors such as ' cobbler', 'doughnuts', 'sea salt chip cookie dough', 'strawberry shortbread', and more exotic flavors such as 'bourbon peach cookie', 'coffee bourbon', 'grilled cheese', and 'pizza', have historically been offered by the parlor. [1] [6] [12] Some flavors offered were made out of collaborations with local restaurants: including ' bananas foster' with the Indian and Asian Cuisine restaurant Garland, 'malted chocolate, ginger and sorghum' with the pop-up diner Snap Pea Underground, [6] and 'SOLA Coffee mini doughnuts with homemade cinnamon syrup', with the coffee shop SOLA Coffee. [15] The parlor has also run promotions with NC State during basketball season. [16]
The parlor has also won first in the WRAL annual Voter's Choice Awards category for best "local ice cream/frozen yogurt" in 2019, [17] 2020, [18] 2021, [19] and 2023, [20] and won second place in 2022.
