The Monkees Greatest Hits is the first greatest hits compilation album by the American pop rock band the Monkees, released in 1969 by Colgems Records. [1]
After the release of the Monkees' movie, Head, the previous winter, had been unsuccessful, Greatest Hits was issued by RCA Records in an attempt to revive interest in the band, who were now down to a trio after the departure of Peter Tork. Greatest Hits peaked at number 89 on the Billboard album charts. It is the only original Monkees album not to feature any photographs of the group on either the front or back covers. The album was reissued on 180 gram vinyl by Friday Music on January 3, 2012.
