I have created a proposal for this template recreation - available here User:Kozuch/Web browsers. It is mostly rewritten the List of web browsers, but there are still few sections to add. I think it is nice to have a template that covers all web-browser articles on all pages because of easier navigation. I have no idea how the deleted template looked like though.-- Kozuch ( talk) 15:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I reverted your edit with the explanation that textbased browsers do also have not one layout engine. let us discuss this problem on the template-talk-page. mabdul 22:30, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Mabdul. Thanks for the notice. I do not want to trouble you over such a trifle. I don't mind much. Well, I think text-based rendering is a form of layout rendering, albeit the extremely simple one. However, Java has nothing to do with layout rendering at all. In fact if you look at the browsers in Java section, each of them have their own layout engine. Oh, and one more thing: Before I split the mobile and desktop browsers in this category, Opera Mini was listed under Presto section, while it is known that Opera Mini is a Java application. (There were other mobile browsers too, like Mozilla Firefox Mobile. Some in this group and some in that.)
Like I said, I don't want to trouble you at all. If you are unsatisfied and wish to play fair, call a third opinion. But even if you don't, I don't mind. Fleet Command ( talk) 00:51, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Should we really have all the versions of Opera and Firefox mentioned in this template. As I see it, on the "yes" side are one extra click saved and on the "no" side are the size of template (it is really huge now) and readability. For me the answer is pretty clear: no. — Dmitrij D. This template sorts the browsers according to two criteria: (1) the environment of the browser (Desktop, Mobile and TV [ sic]) and (2) the layout engine. Also the template features the common sections "Features", "Web standards" and "Related articles". I would suggest to split this template into 3-4 templates:
The benefits of this split are:
Another solution I envision is making this template modular, so that the parts of the template could be enabled/disabled with the arguments (eg. {{web broswers|mobile=yes}} or {{web broswers|nomobile=yes}}). This approach maintains the benefits of the previous one with several specific pros and cons:

This template is devoted to browsers, so it shouldn't list named alternative builds of Firefox. The valid borderline browser to be included IMHO is Pale Moon, which features slightly modified UI. Hi, regarding revert of my edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Template%3AWeb_browsers&diff=570494753&oldid=570418605 "Adding Blink to the Desktop browsers category messed up the ordering. Next time, make sure that the edits don't disturb the order."
I fail to see how I messed up the order. I added Blink at the top, above WebKit. Blink is now current in Chrome, right? And it's the most popular browser, then it should be at the top? (And it's also newest and fits cronological order if that is what it was). I hesitate to revert my revert. Am I wrong? Can anyone add it back (properly)? comp.arch ( talk) 15:46, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello.
This navbox contains a lot of links. Of course, someone has clearly wanted to shorten them, instead of writing the full article title. But, during shortening, sometimes, the significant part was removed, resulting in some misleading titles. For example, GNU IceCat must have been shortened into "IceCat" not "GNU", because GNU is something else. Likewise, Comodo Dragon has been shortened into "Comodo" instead of "Dragon".
