Viral diseases, viruses, or both

This template started out listing diseases only. It now seems to becoming a mix of diseases, and the viruses involved. (especially now that GrahamColm added viral gastroenteritis as a subhead.) Should we have a consensus whether this should be viral diseases (as the template name suggests), viruses, or both? Do we care? Regards— G716 < T· C> 18:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC) reply

  • It might be better called Viruses and Disease, perhaps??? But hey, what do I know, I'm a newbie. User:GrahamColm —Preceding comment was added at 19:20, 7 November 2007 (UTC) reply
  • The scope appears to be limited to medicine, so perhaps the title should be viruses infecting humans. In that context, organization by disease makes sense, since often the infectious disease is identfied but the infecting agent is not. -- Una Smith 05:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Diseases template

This is supposed to be a diseases template (per name, title, category, etc.), but lately the emphasis seems to have shifted away from diseases to virology.

I think we should move it back to dealing with diseases (i.e. disease first), group items by disease characteristics, and remove taxonomic information on the causative organism - template is becoming too large/complex.

If want to keep the focus on viruses, then the name, title, category, color scheme, etc. should be changed to make it a virology template (e.g. Viruses that affect humans.)

The same thing is also occurring with template:Zoonotic viral diseases, and it should probably be treated similarly. Zodon ( talk) 00:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC) reply

Since there are several templates with similar issues, posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine#Disease navigation templates - emphasise disease vs. causative agent, please discuss there. Thanks. Zodon ( talk) 02:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC) reply

should it say viral diseases in humans?

propose name change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.151.229.24 ( talk) 01:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC) reply
