Are all these templates really neccesary

There are so many templates on wikipedia nowadays. It seems so many are irrelevant, template cruft, though this has become something of a feature of wikipedia since i joined. Nobody actually wants to contribute useful information to the project, just show off their wiki-coding schools by adding useless crap, that can just about justify itself to the point of not being immediately deleted. This isnt myspace, if you want to show off coding skills go there! these templates are useless. Almost all templates found at the bottom of pages are far better off being categories, as they have no benefit as being a template, and simply clutter the articles. Thank you. For what it's worth, I tend to agree. However, given that Wikipedia is built on consensus, if consensus is that these things are necessary then it makes sense for them to be made as good as they can. DJR ( T) 23:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC) reply

I don't agree. The Serie A template is very useful considering it aids movement from one Serie A season to another and from one club to another. Very handy and far easier to use than categories. Niall123 00:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Just to let you know this user (Philc, I mean) left the same message on several different template talk pages. See Template talk:G14 and Template talk:Countries of Southern Africa for a couple of samples. -- Angelo 00:39, 2 June 2007 (UTC) reply
Oh fair enough Angelo. I just think that in this instance Templates are much better. I use them a fair bit when navigating Wikipedia. I'd say that Template links get used a lot more than Category links. Niall123 08:05, 2 June 2007 (UTC) reply
"I use them a fair Bit" is hardly justification for cluttering up the articles. The clearly have no purpose which cannot be fulfilled by categories, and do clutter the articles quite considerably. Philc 09:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Two separate templates

What about moving the Template:Serie A teamlist to this one and leave Template:Serie A seasons separated? To match other templates. CapPixel ( talk) 13:52, 7 June 2008 (UTC) reply
