Linguistic transcription
I am trying to figure out what would be (an) appropriate place(s) to collect together linguistic transcription templates such as
Template:IPA,
Template:PIE,
Template:UPA. Would this meta-template be suitable? --

They're not particularly unicode templates though. They are as you note linguistic but that's not the same, and there are many more than just those. The documentation for
Template:IPA collects together a large number of IPA related ones. Apart from that they're categorised in hopefully logical ways, and linked from various pages such as relevant project and guideline pages.--

Uncomon
Having forgotten the name of {{Contains special characters}}, I expected to find it listed here. It is not but it seems to me that it should. Is there a good reason for this? --

Good point. Add a group (row) "wiki related"? There also exists {{PUA}}. And
MOS:PUA. -
