Horrible. Would anyone mind if I changed the colour of this banner slightly? Every time I encounter it, I momentarily get the impression someone has edited my Talk page. Heart palpatation ensues. I would greatly prefer a different colour. Thanks.

Isn't that just as nice? Better?-- Ec5618 02:53, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
It's been turned to a blue now, which I guess is okay. I agree, when it was the identical color of the orange "You have new messages box" it was slightly confusing. -- Cyde Weys vote talk 22:15, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

This edit that I just made should make the template work for users (and pages) who have spaces in their names. Apologies for marking the edit minor and the lack of edit summary. I was trying to test this out in my sandbox before changing the actual template; I ended up making the changes in the wrong tab, and (thinking I was editing my sandbox) marked the edit minor and left out an edit summary. FWIW, it looks like the change should work. — Jeff | (talk) | 09:39, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Er, how did it break it? (I even tested it in IE) — Locke Cole • t • c 04:46, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
When you turn it into using the "usermessage" class (or whatever) it will display the very broken functionality of having its text warp into "You have new messages". It's very definitely broken ... try it in Firefox and see. -- Cyde Weys 16:07, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Here's what it looks like (broken) for me. I am using the latest version of Firefox. I get a similar bug in IE, except it just displays "You have ( changes)". Seems to me like this could be a plugin/JavaScript error ... but then again, enough users are using Popups or AfD helper or whatever that this template shouldn't be broken for them when a reasonable alternative exists. Cyde Weys 23:06, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
This time, instead of using the CSS class directly, I just copied the style info into a DIV tag. Let me know if there's any troubles. =) — Locke Cole • t • c 03:07, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

There is an idea. A centered box, it looks neater too. [ wossi] 22:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I forgot to include an edit summary, but I added an if statement to allow the padding to be set manually. My revision is here. Gh5046 ( talk) 21:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I was bold and added this message to the template: "and always remember to sign it using four tildes (~~~~)". I think it's a very good idea, most newcomers don't sign their comments, and probably don't even see the sign on top of the "new message" page. I think it doesn't hurt to remind them of that even before they try to leave a message. I like it, and I hope other people like it too. – w2bh talk• contribs 07:05, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I noticed today that this template does not work (at least for me). The URL it takes you to when clicking the link is : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:MiloKral%7Caction=edit§ion=new}} Where obviously my username would be replaced with the user using it. Anyway, it seems like a quick fix, the | right after the username needs to be changed to ?, and the 2 rogue }} brackets at the end need to be removed. Then it works as intended (as far as I can tell). I'm new here so I don't know how to apply this fix myself, someone else please do so -- MiloKral ( talk) 17:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Is there a way we can make it slimmer?— Lost Whispers talk 12:24, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@ Frietjes and SS49: This is no longer centered by default as it should be, e.g.:
![]() | This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries. |
