what is this?

@ MisterCake: The edit history shows it was originally scoped to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. It now seems to be about the best Independent team from the south? There are concerns about WP:V and potential duplication with SIAA. UW Dawgs ( talk) 22:57, 7 December 2016 (UTC) reply

Despite the history, it is not a duplicate. Given your recent edits, I will add I've included the independent "south atlantic" champions (1907-1911) here as well. Perhaps they need a separate navbox. Nonetheless, all the teams listed in this navbox 1) claim regional championships and 2) weren't part of any conference, aside from 1924 Centre, which claimed a general regional championship for upsetting SoCon champion Alabama. All others should be pretty straightforward if you look at the sources, images, etc. For example, there are several sources to back me up that Trinity was the (however dubious) 1891 southern champion. Can you find time to build a list-stub article with a citation? If not, is there a single citation which supports all of the teams? UW Dawgs ( talk) 23:36, 7 December 2016 (UTC) reply
I suppose that's one way to deal with the "where to put the navbox" problem - just make the article. The college football datawarehouse has the south atlantic champions going back to 1907, probably the source of the error. See several at " champions of the south regardless of conference affiliation". Cake ( talk) 23:38, 7 December 2016 (UTC) reply
Stubbed now at List of independent southern football champions. Lot of opportunity for better formatting. UW Dawgs ( talk) 00:59, 8 December 2016 (UTC) reply
A comment is probably worthwhile re removal of various 1911-1932 champions from the template which are shown in your offered citation. Not a big deal to me, but it is confusing. UW Dawgs ( talk) 02:15, 8 December 2016 (UTC) reply
