User:Colchicum, commenting your revert, kindly define on what grounds Vyborg and Kexholm Castles were "Finnish in the Middle Ages". -- Drieakko 19:25, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Vyborg castle was made by Swedes to defend area controlled by Sweden. During the time it was in active usage, it was never controlled by Finns. Kexholm Castle was built by Russians to defend Republic of Novgorod, then rebuilt by Swedes to defend Sweden. During the time it was in active usage, it was never controlled by Finns. Both castles were a part of a political entity called Finland only from 1812 until 1940, then already without military usage, and remain within Russia today. In the Middle Ages, neither castle was a part of "Finland", then a general regional term covering just the southwesternmost part of what Finland today is. -- Drieakko 19:42, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
I changed the template so that it is collapsed by default, and also changed some links so that they point to articles instead of redirects. MKFI ( talk) 13:45, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Also marked castles etc outside modern borders of Finland with cursive. MKFI ( talk) 14:10, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
