Backdoor deletion by redirecting it is not ok. That is against Wiki rules. AFD can be used instead.

Both the initial edits and the revert seem in good faith, just differing template-arrangement concepts. In my experience templates usually contain media about a topic if available, either in a few entries if there aren't too many or in overall links such as
Statue of Liberty in popular culture while also linking prominent examples. I don't know if this is a part of a guideline or not, but makes sense so readers interested in the principal topic can learn more about how it has impacted overall society.
