What about the airliner bound for Florida that plunged into the Potomac in the 80's in the middle of winter?

Do you mean
Air Florida Flight 90? I think it would probably be good to differentiate between attempted ditchings (rare) to crashes in water (somewhat more common). This seems to fall into the latter, no?
