This is a documentation subpage for Template:Awards ref. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

Provides standard article references for documenting the source of awards nomination and wins.

This removes the need for the same reference to be included in several articles, and ensures they have parameters such as an archive.

Usage

When the award parameter is provided, a footnote about that specific data set is generated.

Award parameters

When no award parameter is provided, or when an invalid index is provided, a generic footnote is generated with an error:

• {{ Awards ref}} = ^[13]
• {{ Awards ref|xyz}} = ^[14]

This is the reference list generated by the above examples:

Anchor names produced are based on the index parameter, or its lack thereof. As a result, the same {{ Awards ref|index}} code can be used many times in the same article while generating only one actual footnote per index code.

Reference grouping

If it is desired to place the footnote into a reference group other than the default, the |group= parameter may be used:

• {{ Awards ref|MTV2022|group=nb}} = ^{[nb 1]}

NB to group the footnote with other footnotes rather than references, ({{ notelist}}), use |group=lower-alpha

Citation format

All references use {{ cite web}} as a base template. This means the footnotes are output using Citation Style 1 (CS1) as a default. To switch to Citation Style 2 (CS2), use |mode=cs2 as appropriate. This must be done each time the template is called in an article, or there will be an error message in the reference list.
