The Horse Fair is an oil painting on canvas completed by the French artist
Rosa Bonheur between 1852 and 1853. Depicting dealers selling horses on the streets in Paris, the work was first exhibited at the
Paris Salon in 1853. In 1887, having been held by several private collectors, the painting was donated by
Cornelius Vanderbilt II to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is one of Bonheur's most popular works, such that
Queen Victoria requested a private viewing at
