Apis mellifera carnica
) is a
subspecies
of the
western honey bee
native to the
Balkans
and surrounding areas. It is adapted to the
Kočevje
sub-region of
Carniola
(now in Slovenia). It is the second most popular among
beekeepers
(after the
Italian bee
).
