Tarutung (Dutch: Taroetoeng) is a town and the administrative capital (seat) of North Tapanuli Regency (Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara), North Sumatra, Sumatra, Indonesia.
Tarutung in the Batak language means " durian" and town was named after the durian trees that grow there.
