Requested move 20 February 2023

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Zhivopisnoye ObozrenyeZhivopisnoe obozrenie – The current spelling is romanized from a misspelling of the Russian name Живописное обозрение: in no romanization system that I know of is the ending -ие rendered as -ye (that usually represents -ые).

The proposed spelling is the clear and only WP:COMMONNAME of the journal in English-language sources. [1] The common capitalization is sentence case, following the Russian-language original. [2]

Here’s a brief survey of search results. The top spelling corresponds to both the commonly used modified Library of Congress romanization system (widely used in bibliographic cataloguing of publication titles, and in academic and popular-academic literature), and the less common British Standard. The second corresponds to the BGN/PCGN system used in geographic naming. The third is the current title (if you remove “-Wikipedia” from the search string you will see it is has a little usage – I didn’t bother checking the details).

  • Support, the proposed transliteration is correct according to most standards, including the contended WP:RUS. (Thus the overwhelming number of search hits). "Obozrenye" implies that the original spelling is "обозреные", which is just wrong. No such user ( talk) 08:18, 10 March 2023 (UTC) reply
No, it is does not agree with WP:RUS. Ymblanter ( talk) 08:22, 11 March 2023 (UTC) reply
Notable characteristics of the home-grown system described in the WP:RUS essay include:
    • It precisely corresponds to no standardized system for romanization of Russian.
    • It is significantly different from ALA-LC – the most commonly used system in academic and popular-academic sources, and in bibliographic cataloguing (thus dominating the spelling of titles of publications) – and from most other standards.
    • Almost one can tell what conforms to it and what doesn’t without spending more time going through the confusing essay again, and sometimes even then.
