Neither built for Navy nor an "Alamosa-class cargo ship"
This is a good example of assuming stuff not in DANFS or other records. The ship was not, as formerly stated, "built for the Navy" and neither was it ever an "Alamosa-class cargo ship" as some of its commissioned sisters became. Bell Ringer was built for MARAD, delivered to the War Shipping Administration, operated by WSA agent Waterman until bareboat chartered to the Army. When Army lost all it blue water transports to Navy under the Department of Defense formation the ship was just another of MSTS's vessels—not a "class" as with commissioned ones.
