Centre for the Study of Existential Risk

I removed the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk with the edit summary "there are numerous such centres, housed in Mill Lane this one doesn't appear significant in [the] history of Cambridge". However someone has now put it back, with a little tag saying "relevant? – discuss". As I've already stated my rationale for removing it, perhaps someone would like to discuss why it should be included. It seems obvious to me that a Timeline of Cambridge should only include items that are significant in the history of the city, which this clearly isn't.-- Pontificalibus ( talk) 11:10, 26 August 2017 (UTC) reply

I agree that the timeline should include items relevant to the life of the city of Cambridge. However the University's Centre for the Study of Existential Risk has a unique and timely focus ( global catastrophic risk) that seems particularly noteworthy. Academia takes place somewhere, and the university draws interesting people into Cambridge, affecting the experience of city residents. M2545 ( talk) 11:41, 26 August 2017 (UTC) reply
It has no significance to Cambridge's history. It's basically a tiny office down a backstreet - a small university centre, of which there are very many. Being research and teaching-orient they are all unique and timely e.g. Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research, Centre for India & Global Business, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership etc etc. We could include them all. However I really think this sort of thing needs to have a bigger impact to be on this list, otherwise it becomes a list of all the companies and organisations. -- Pontificalibus ( talk) 12:08, 26 August 2017 (UTC) reply
