Stanton tried to fire Eckert

quoting Edwin M. Stanton (no reference):

"Stanton once tried to fire the Chief of the War Department Telegraph Office, Thomas Eckert. Lincoln prevented this by praising Eckert to Stanton."

That isn't strictly inconsistent with this Eckert biography but it does misfit and, if true, it's a notable omission here.

Guard Lincoln

President Lincoln asked Eckert to accompany him to Ford's Theatre as a bodyguard on the night of his assassination. Eckert declined, saying he had too much work to do. Thismightbezach ( talk) 21:10, 29 October 2014 (UTC) reply
