Jenny McCarthy's "Activism and autism controversy"

Saw this: Jenny McCarthy#Activism and autism controversy

Why isn't this mentioned in the article? It seems really relevant. I personally am not the person to write it tho :/

sources/notability

At the moment, this article has four sources. All of them are about Jenny McCarthy. Two of them are from the organization. The other two are dead links.

No subject is notable without substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. A quick Google news search turns up a few bare mentions: "The event benefits..." and such. - SummerPhD ( talk) 14:31, 27 June 2014 (UTC) reply

Page update

The group is still active, yet the page has not been update in quite some time. I'm starting what could be a major rewrite, to be able to remove the tags. Robincantin ( talk) 00:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC) reply

Done. I hope others agree I've done enough to warrant the removal of the tags. I'll check if their annual conference generate media coverage that may be used to enrich the article. Don't hesitate to improve the article if you can. Robincantin ( talk) 19:13, 11 October 2017 (UTC) reply

Lack of Impartial Information

Hello, If you look at previous interactions on this page, you can see an effort by some individuals to manufacture this institution’s information and programming. This article is in critical need of relevant, recent data.

Since 2019, TACA has restructured its organization to stray away from its anti-vaccine image. It’s still questionable to what extent this is the case, as the word ‘vaccine’ left TACA’s internet presence in 2017. Some board members of their organization had or still do hold anti-vaccination beliefs. However, none of the programming or funding in TACA goes towards the proliferation of anti-vaccine efforts, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Being familiar with TACA in my hometown, I have been unaware of any anti-vaccination rhetoric in the past couple of years. However, addressing scientific skepticism is critical for vulnerable individuals such as those in the Autism community.

My brother has been going to TACA programming for 12 years, so it’s sad to see no representation of this organization’s beneficial aspects. Anti-vaccination is a viewpoint that harms the Autism community as a whole, but there is no representation of anything that TACA does besides being an anti-vax 'proliferation cult'. If TACA is just a right-winged, anti-science activist group, then the article (and corresponding sources) should reflect this.

In terms of things to improve this article: -There needs to be more links to the Autistic spectrum, in either the “see also” tab or as an expanded series on the bottom of the page. We could all use some more reading about now...

-There needs to be a description of the organization’s operations and functions, as pulled from their annual reports, company website, or press releases. There is no mention of their volunteers, scholarship programs, community outreach, or diagnosis/medical assistance programs.

-There needs to be a section for organization history. There are a plethora of links to the organization’s history available from first and second-hand sources online.

-There needs a general clean-up of the article’s controversy section since there are some unsourced facts. The sources could also be improved, as some of the referenced links are blog posts based on this Wikipedia page

-There needs to be an update on the controversy section on TACA’s vaccine viewpoint during or post-COVID.

-There needs to be an update to all links that are out of date/include circular referencing.

-This goes a bit above my Wikipedia knowledge, but it may be useful to have a banner about misinformation and general upkeep on this page. The page’s history tab shows a cycle of people adding/deleting mass information under the guise of fact-checking. If you only see one side of an argument, it’s just whitewashing the truth.

Hope this makes sense and that the truth may be seen. Misinformation and filtering only one’s viewpoint obstructs our ability to have critical thought, and communicate through obstructions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.145.62.246 ( talk) 04:51, 19 April 2022 (UTC) reply
