How is this etymology? Is it not merely a naming issue? 81.68.255.36 ( talk) 11:37, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
" Etymology" is the study of the origins and history of the meaning of words, so I propose moving the page to "Terminology of the Vietnam War." There is only one link to this page, Vietnam War#etymology which I will adjust. ch ( talk) 17:49, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Based on talk page of Vietnam War and the contents of this page, this page appears to reflect an opinion based on misunderstanding the style of most English Vietnamese dictionaries. Namely, these dictionaries translate word for word, they do not provide the words normally used by Vietnamese.
Arguments to what it is called by overseas Vietnamese do not help either, as that depends on which overseas Vietnamese you talk to.
I see no point in this page, in the English wiki. It is sufficient, I think that the Vietnam War page says the people of Vietnam call the war The American War. RayTayMiht ( talk) 08:26, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
It's totaly true that Vietnamese call it "Resistance War Against America" (Kháng chiến chống Mỹ) or more formally "Resistance War Against America to save the Nation" (Kháng chiến chống Mỹ cứu nước), but the translation as "American War" (Chiến tranh Mỹ in Vietnamese) need to be examined further because I have never seen anyone in Vietnam calls it like that. The Vietnamese Wikipedia also didn't mention this name, https://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi%E1%BA%BFn_tranh_Vi%E1%BB%87t_Nam#T.C3.AAn_g.E1.BB.8Di. Quych ( talk) 14:13, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
