Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because Stevie Boi is a cultural influence as a fashion designer. — Tenth Dimension ( talk) 19:49, 24 October 2011 (UTC) reply

That means nothing without reliable, independent references. See WP:SOURCES. Interviews and short blurbs on blogs do not count. While I think the speedy deletion will be denied, the article will be put up for deletion by other mean unless sources are added. Bgwhite ( talk) 07:45, 25 October 2011 (UTC) reply

RfC: Is the self-published source an acceptable source for Boi's own new collection?

Not exactly. If it isn't mentioned in sources meeting WP:RS I'd argue it isn't appropriate to include it as it will only be promotional without evidence of independent interest in it. Doug Weller talk 17:34, 9 January 2016 (UTC) reply
I think it depends on the information sourced to it. For instance I think its an okay source for: "In 2014 Stevie Boi created his collection entitled "X2SEA" inspired by his trip to St Thomas Virgin islands. The collection is very colorful and reminds him of the islands, including Colorful prints and bright elaborate gemstones" since he can be his own source about what "inspires" him and what things "remind him of". [ This page] is a little troubling though. Although the quote in question appears to have been removed from the article, the whole article seems pretty promotional. Seems to me like the real problem here is that the guy isn't really notable enough to have much to say that doesn't sound promotional. Lynn (SLW) ( talk) 01:04, 10 January 2016 (UTC) reply
What I am saying is that not everything that meets our source criteria should be in the article. Otherwise, in this case, we'd be adding promotion. If the collection is significant enough to have attracted media etc attention that we should use those sources to discuss it. Doug Weller talk 12:49, 10 January 2016 (UTC) reply
This article has an interesting history of new accounts being created solely to create and edit this article, which explains its promotional style. I think that User:Stestra15 in particular has a serious conflict of interest and probably shouldn't be editing it. Doug Weller talk 17:31, 13 January 2016 (UTC) reply
