Petofi's father was Serb and therefore his family name was Serbian which means that his ethnicity was Serbian (please correct it in the main page). His mother was Slovak so his mother tongue was Slovak. At the end, he culturally developed as Hungarian and he is Hungarian poet.
This article needs tidying up. Also some of the vocabulary is rather romanticised (e.g "glorious day") - a more factual account of his life would be more appropriate. Scott Moore 10:18, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Satisfied? (I leave 'glorious day' to someone with better literary sense to replace) DoDo 25 Nov 2004
The Hungarian version of this article categorically states that the Petrovics family was of Slovak origin whose ancestors had lived in Nitra county in Upper Hungary at least since the 18th century. In fact, a 17th century ancestor of Petőfi was ennobled. The Serb origin of Petőfi's father has been refuted, so why does this article still speculate about Serb origins? 2001:4C4E:2496:E400:E0D7:5E07:BC90:36B8 ( talk) 19:06, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
