Paula Cole grew up in Rockport, and was president of her High School class. Fodder for "Famous Residents"?

The Paper House

Shouldn't this article mention The Paper House? I only heard of it from a "did you know..." thing on a website and wanted to verify the truth of it. After more research (since Wikipedia didn't help) I found the official website. Someone who's actually been there, or even grew up around the area, might be better suited to adding this information to the article than me. -- Nillli ( talk) 13:22, 17 October 2009 (UTC) reply

It should be added as a point of interest but there isn't a seperate wiki page for the paper house. Why don't you write one? You can google some info. MBCF ( talk) 03:50, 18 October 2009 (UTC) reply

I second the motion of mentioning the paper house. Our family was vacationing in the area of Rockport and someone local mentioned the paper house...otherwise we would not have seen it. Very interesting spectacle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.152.248.28 ( talk) 15:02, 22 August 2010 (UTC) reply

Better photos?

Can't we come up with a better photo of Bearskin Neck? It looks like all telephone poles and wires. And "southwest"? The shot is taken looking northeast. MBCF ( talk) 12:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC) reply

you sound like a local. do it. Chensiyuan ( talk) 18:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC) reply
OK, within the next week. Officially I am not a local since I was not born in the Addison Gilbert Hospital but I can fake it. MBCF ( talk) 15:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC) reply

Chamber of Commerce sites

Those two sites are works of art, wonderfully designed, amazingly apt for the purpose. Money spent on those was well-spent. However, their purposes are not our purposes. They are interested in current commerce in all its phases from advertising to event scheduling. We are interested in encyclopedic information and sources. What encyclopedic information comes from them? WP articles are not extensions of the official site. We don't care what businesses exist in town, what they sell, how much, where, how to contact them etc. You can disagree if you like. I would ask you to back it up with WP policy statements, which you can find in the help sections. Dave ( talk) 13:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC) reply

Sandy Bay Breakwater

One of the historical links, which should be kept, concerns Sandy Bay Breakwater, a hazard of navigation intended to reduce hazard. After excavating big holes in Rockport for a number of years and dumping the stone out at sea the government abandoned the breakwater. There it stands, in the middle of nowhere, a small section only being above water, rivalling all the other shoals and hazards. It should be mentioned in an expanded history section. It was going make Rockport into a haven against nature, you know. Engineers can do anything they set their mind to, can't they? Man has no limits. All you need is the right management technique and a good imagination. Dave ( talk) 17:12, 8 August 2010 (UTC) reply

Wikitravel link etc

Not allowed, WP:ELNO

Well I notice all but one of the links are advertising. I don't blame you. Rockport is a leading tourist attraction. I try to eat there whenever economics permits. The seafood is almost out of this world. When you see an article like this you automatically think, here is a chance to plug my wares for free or to share the good food and good goods with everyone. Everyone else seems to be doing it on WP and then there are several other Wikis also who are doing it. However, we are trying to do something a little different here: a summary of human knowledge. I suppose you could argue that the location and price of Amy's bed and breakfast or the cost of Joe's tours is human knowledge. I'm speaking of the more abstract kind and the detail required to support it. I've given you a link as a guideline. I can't think of a better one: detailed, precise, well-written. Please do follow it. By the way, along these lines I notice Phelan has taken a photo of Toad Hall Bookstore. Phelan has made almost immeasurable contributions to the photos of eastern Massachusetts. He seems bent on photographing everything in sight and the photos are all good. Somehow his photo of Toad Hall got in here. I don't know who put it in, but it has to come out. Why Toad Hall? Every single one of those businesses on Bearskin Neck is equally worthy. Why not give them a break? If it is you, John, I am sure you see what I mean. We can't get into advertising here or singling out the favorite businesses of the editors. There's another point too, John. You have photographed an identifiable business with a sign and now you allow it to be published. Did they give you permission? I believe you need it. But, not for us, as it has to come out. John has had a few pics removed for copyright violations, but they are a small portion of his total contribution, and besides, copyrights of photos are very hard to ascertain. You practically have to be a lawyer. Well, I've done enough on this article for now. I'll be back when I repeat my list again and will address some of the other issues. Meanwhile, remember, this is an encyclopedia not a travel or a community site. Dave ( talk) 01:47, 9 August 2010 (UTC) reply

History - second paragraph

This paragraph needs further work. I've re-written it in part, but there's a reference that needs checking and adding as a proper numbered reference. Chris Jefferies ( talk) 09:36, 18 November 2018 (UTC) reply
