Rise Against GA Review

Article ( | visual edit | history) · Article talk ( | history) · Watch

A good article is...

  1. Well-written:
    (a) the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct; and
    (b) it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  2. Verifiable with no original research:
    (a) it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    (b) reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose); and
    (c) it contains no original research.
  3. Broad in its coverage:
    (a) it addresses the main aspects of the topic; and
    (b) it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
    (a) media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content; and
    (b) media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.

Specific issues

  • "A reissued version of The Unraveling was also released on August 23, 2005 through Fat Wreck Chords; it includes additional bonus tracks." Remove this sentence. Green tickY
  • "After touring in support of their first album and the release of Revolutions per Minute and its supporting tours, Rise Against attracted the interest of several record labels." Source? (I suggest that you remove this sentence too, as I feel that is a little redundant.) Green tickY
  • "Rise Against released Siren Song of the Counter Culture in August 2004 on Geffen Records, increasing the band's popularity on the mainstream music scene." Source? Green tickY
  • "The singles released from Appeal to Reason also did well on the music charts. "Re-Education (Through Labor)" reached number 22 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 3 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, making it Rise Against's highest charting single on a rock chart ("Swing Life Away" charted on the Pop 100). The music video for Appeal to Reason's second single, "Audience of One", premiered on MySpace Music on January 15, 2009. "Audience of One" reached number 4 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart." Remove this paragraph, I suggest you move this content to the appropriate main article. Green tickY
  • The sections The Sufferer & the Witness and Appeal to Reason need to be summarized, see summary style. There is an excess of information, which can be easily moved to their respective main articles. Red XN

You have seven days to address my concerns.-- Canniba loki 04:10, 27 April 2009 (UTC) reply

Thanks. I'll address your concerns as my schedule allows over the next few days. Tim meh ! 21:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC) reply

I have addressed most of your concerns. However, I don't understand how there is an excess of information in The Sufferer & the Witness section; it is only three paragraphs long and does not go into excessive detail IMHO. Tim meh ! 23:00, 28 April 2009 (UTC) reply

An example...

  • In January 2006, after extensive touring in support of Siren Song of the Counter Culture, Rise Against returned to the studio to begin working on their fourth album. The band had been writing songs beforehand for several months. The album was recorded at the Blasting Room studio in Fort Collins, Colorado with producers Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore. The album was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge at Resonate Sound in Burbank, California; in April 2006, the band announced that mixing had been completed. The band also announced that the album would be named The Sufferer & the Witness and would be released in June or July of that year.
    • Summarized: In January 2006, after touring in support of Siren Song of the Counter Culture, Rise Against recorded their fourth studio album at the Blasting Room studio in Fort Collins, Colorado with producers Bill Stevenson and Chuck Norris. The Sufferer & the Witness, was released on July 4, 2006. The album peaked at number 10 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 48,397 copies in its first week of release; it was eventually certified gold by the RIAA, in 2008. Red XN

I must remind you that this article only become a GA, when all my concerns are adressed.-- Canniba loki 01:35, 29 April 2009 (UTC) reply

I have summarized the two sections. Please let me know if they need more summarizing and if so what exactly any remaining extraneous information is. Tim meh ! 17:52, 2 May 2009 (UTC) reply
After really summarized the article, I passed it to GA-class.-- Canniba loki 18:38, 3 May 2009 (UTC) reply
Thanks a bunch, Cannibaloki. I really appreciate you taking the time to summarize the article and make the other minor fixes to bring it to GA status. I really wasn't exactly sure about the summarizing part, but I'm glad you took it into your own hands and got it done. Thanks again for improving and passing the article. Okay, okay, you're welcome. -- Canniba loki 18:51, 3 May 2009 (UTC) reply
