This is the last volume in what is the best known and most notable of the dozens if not hundreds of series of garage rock/ psychedelic rock albums that have been released from the 1970's to the present day. Richie Unterberger, writing for allmusic says of the Pebbles series: "More than any other factor, these compilations were responsible for the resurgence of interest in garage rock, which remains high among collectors to this day. Though the lyrics are at times downright juvenile and sexist, the main attraction is the sound and stance, which anticipates the outrage of punk rock, but tempers it with tough British Invasion-inspired melodies, harmonies, and hooks, as well as fuzz-toned guitars, Farfisa organs, and wildly manic songwriting and performances. . . . Of special interest among the later volumes are installments devoted to wide-ranging obscurities from the European continent." The latter statement applies to the 10 or so albums that are in the Continent Lashes Back series, which includes this volume. No one is likely to list any of the Pebbles albums as among the 500 best albums ever – as Rolling Stone has been done with Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era – but their renown among collectors is arguably as high.
