I do notthink the distinction made here is correct. E-books that are available free are still called e-books. Can someone provide an example of the meaningg as used here? Perhaps an online book is a book intended to exist only as a free e-text of some sort. Are Project Gutenberg texts online books? They are possibley on-line editions of paper books, which is not quite the same thing. I think an online book is a resource that is available online, whereas an eBook has come to mean something that may be downloadded and possibly also read on an eBook Reader.
The conflation here between 'online' and 'free' is false.

The definition of an online book is too narrow. There's no reason why an online book would not contain interactive content. Another distinction is whether parts of a book can be directly referred to by other books or web pages. Both of the following examples are linkable and in the public domain. The first one has active content (hyperlinks).

Blank and redirect to ebook
This page is completely unsourced and seems to be describing an e-book which may have always-online DRM. This page also seems to be based on assumptions that e-books are webpages with hyperlinks and can't just be PDF files, or that digitized books aren't e-books.

Looking at the earliest version of this article from 2005, it might even be describing web fiction, and then got mangled over the years to describe e-books-but-not. There's a compelling case to be made for redirecting this page to web fiction instead. There's also a compelling case to be made for just deleting this. I'm going to revert the blank and redirect for now and nominate this for AfD.
