This is not a fictional creature. It is a genuine vampire from Herman folklore, more commonly spelled "nachtzehrer". It is better known as "blutsauger" or "bloodsucker". More information is available at the following sites: [1] [2] [3]

I am curious about "Though officially a vampire ..." as if there was some government organisation for classifying such legendary beasties. The best that can be said is some writers have included it as a vampire in their survey of creatures from global folklore, while others have said it is closer to a zombie. There is no reference in the German folklore that the nachzehrer is either a ghoul-like creature or that it consumes dead bodies or blood. The article at German Wikipedia says the nachzehrer feeds on life force. The only "source" I know which says the nachzehrer is a ghoul-like creature is the TV show "Supernatural".

Can someone add an International Phonetic Alphabet pronunciation? I would do this myself, but I don't know how to pronounce it in the first place. -- Categorically Not ( 🗪) 20:18, 8 August 2021 (UTC) reply
