Currently this article faces a major issue: Getting a handle on the differences between the versions of the motif-index Thompson published. One major issue: Thompson's motif-index volumes were first published in 1932-1936, followed by expanded and revised versions published 1955-1958. However, Thompson's The Folktale, which contains a version of the motif-index appears to have been first published in 1946, and then saw a second edition in 1977. So, here's the question: Does The Folktale contain a motif-index derived from the first motif-index editions (1932-1936) or the expanded volumes (1955-1958)?
