Hey David Eppstein, Tryptofish: I'm finding zero coverage on this guy, and his personal website [1] crows, right on the front page, that Prof Michael Fitzgerald was the winner of the “Excellence in Psychiatry” award 2017 and was nominated as one of the top 4 Psychiatrists by Hospital Professional News Ireland – Top 100 Professionals in Ireland 2017 -- apparently the best he's got. Can you guys do a WP:PROF check of your own before I nominate for AFD?

With that out of the way, I think it would be reasonable to go to AfD. However, the "about" link you provided above says in the first sentence that he was "Henry Marsh Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Trinity College, Dublin." That puts him into a named professorship, which might make for a pass at WP:PROF. I'm lazy, so I'll let David look into stuff like the h-index, but I would generally expect scholars who study brain-related biomedical science to have high levels of publication and citation. I'll also observe that on Wikipedia, we have a considerable amount of editorial activism (my euphemism for POV-pushing) on behalf of persons who are seen favorably in the autism community. (As for using that preprint as a source for the Oppie page, I'd insist on waiting for it to get peer-reviewed and published before it could be cited.) -- Tryptofish ( talk) 20:24, 25 August 2023 (UTC) reply

I hadn't noticed the "Henry Marsh Professor" bit. According to [6] Fitzgerald was the first occupant of the chair (1996-2010) but I can't find any reference to its creation (including in Henry Marsh (neurosurgeon)), nor can I find anyone who seems to have taken the chair since. Thanks for the ping. I'm a U.S. higher ed scholar so I'm not familiar with most of the places he has worked/taught nor am I especially familiar with the standards of publication (e.g., what counts as a high citation rate) in the discipline of psychology. I'm not seeing any independent sources for the chair position which probably isn't a good sign. The article does claim that he has published several books, however, so it might be easier to try going down that road to see if it leads anywhere productive. I came here wondering about notability too. I have looked for reviews of his last two books and can't find any. I think Liberties Press, which published Unstoppable Brilliance, may have a vanity press arm - from its website, "Liberties Press produces books to order for – and in association with – companies and private organisations, as well as private individuals".
