Eclipse paths

To verify the eclipse paths, see the map of the 2017 August 21 eclipse on Google Maps and the map of the 2024 April 8 eclipse on Google Maps.

As far as I can tell, the paths of greatest totality cross just south of a little clearing in a wooded area near the intersection of South Poplar Camp Rd and Salem Rd NW of Makanda village center.

The previously claimed location, just west of Midland Hills Golf Course, is not that far away, but I'd like to see a source for it before having someone revert to that. -- pne (talk) 13:28, 16 January 2009 (UTC) reply

Using these two maps, USA - 2017 August 21 Total Solar Eclipse - Interactive Google Map (Full Screen) - Xavier Jubier and Mexico - 2024 April 8 Total Solar Eclipse - Interactive Google Map (Full Screen) - Xavier Jubier, and not just lining up the two but also clicking in various places on both sides of the line he marks as greatest totality and looking at umbral depth in the balloons, I have come up with the crossing point of 37°38′38″N 89°15′57″W / 37.6437985°N 89.2659135°W / 37.6437985; -89.2659135, which isn't too far away from yours, pne. However in cases of disagreement between Xavier Jubier and NASA, it's possible that NASA may be the more correct. Either way it looks like it would be somewhere south of the wrist-bend of Salem Rd. Is there a way to contact NASA to verify the coordinates of the intersection of the two eclipses at the lines of greatest eclipse? Kimmymarie24 ( talk) 09:41, 4 April 2012 (UTC) reply

This is interesting! I included those coordinates on the Wikiversity:SYZYGY17 learning resource. • Q ^ # o • 22:39, 28 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Makanda is a photogenic village. Doesn't anyone have any pictures to up-load? 211.225.30.91 ( talk) 07:02, 1 May 2011 (UTC) reply
