To be included on this stand-alone list, each entry should meet the following list criteria: Per the standard people list criteria, only people who meet the biographical notability requirements may appear here. A reliable source must be cited for their association with Evanston, whether born, raised, or residing. The sources to establish notability and association can either be cited in a Wikipedia article about the person, or at the list entry itself.

I want to talk about a particular case I'm struggling with finding the answer to.

I feel that Christopher Steiner is a notable person and deserves to be on this list. He does not have a personal wikipedia page, as per the notability criteria for the page. However, he is the author of a significant work which does have a wikipedia entry and has, from what I understand, done other notable things deserving of his own wikipedia entry. My question: how do I resolve this? Would I be doing something wrong if I were to create his wikipedia page, just so he can fit the criteria so I'd be able to add him to this list? Or is that someone else's responsibility, so as to keep the whole thing impartial?

Hello Mrkwillson and welcome to Wikipedia editing. I went ahead and added him to the this page (under Writers). What I need from you is a citation on the web that mentions he is from Evanston or lived there. Preferably a newspaper article or some prominent source (no blogs or personal web pages). As for his own biography page? His book being WP:Notable is not enough. You would have to find a few sources that pass WP:Reliable sources and discuss him directly, not just the book. Then head over to WP:Biographies of living persons to learn more about creating a biography page. Per WP:LISTPEOPLE, until you have an article on the author with multiple independent sources (or multiple independent sources verifying that he belongs on this page), he should not be included on this list. Not exactly wp:good faith to revert again before concluding this discussion. An author of a notable book clearly falls under WP:1E and qualifies him for WP:Notability and mention on this list of notable people from. The book is the singular source of his notability and thus does not warrant an independent biography article. The only thing missing is a citation connecting him to this town. Given the conversation above, such a citation most likely exists and you would be better serving Wikipedia if you found that citation or asked the above editor for it, instead of just reverting a perfectly good list entry. Lists of people have tons of entries for people notable for only one event and lacking their own biography page. Examples include victims of notable crimes, winners of notable beauty pageants, winners of popular tv game shows, etc...all linking back to the event they are notable for.
