This would be a highly useful listing if it weren't such a mess. It appears some of the material outside of the grid is not in the grid itself, but that long list is just sort of parked there, perhaps with the intention that someone else should come along and sort through/integrate that material? I don't think the grid itself should be deleted, although that's not a bad idea, but the header on the "words & music" field ought to be changed to something like "Writers" and a date field for release and/or recording ought to be added. The writer(s) of a selection is not a consistent bit of information to be gathered from the cylinders themselves; such info would only be included on the lid of the box that the cylinder came in, and in the instance of comedy routines, would not be included at all. The lids are scarce; most often you encounter the cylinder in a box without a lid, or without a box most often. While I am loath to remove information from any Wikipedia page, I think that the "words = w: music = m." formula is unnecessarily unwieldy and that a simple line listing of the writers, separated by commas or dashes, is sufficient. Given the shortage of box lids, many of which would not have been fully accurate anyway, one would be tacking dangerously close to the shore of original research in gathering and posting such information anyway.
This, incidentally, is only the main popular series of Blue Amberols, which runs from 1501 to 5719. That's 4,218 records, though not all of the numbers were used and some of the titles were listed/advertised, but for some reason, not released. This is not the only Blue Amberol series; there were also several series of foreign recordings, a special domestic popular series letter "A" through "K" and separate series for classical and operatic selections which include the Royal Purple Amberols. I would argue that the page ought to be moved to one that includes the word "Edison" in the title, as only Edison Records manufactured Blue Amberols, and that some distinction be added in the title to distinguish this popular series from other series, which can be combined in another Wiki. In my revision of the 1501-2499 section, incorporating the entries from the extra list found at the end of the article, I found two entries that are not usable and I deleted them:
- 1606 || Whistling Jim || || Quartette ||
Not a valid BA entry -- U.S. Everlasting 1601 was this title with the Peerless Quartette, so that may explain the confusion.
- 2455 ********* ** ** (xylophone) - **** (unreadable title)
