Firstly, Jack Reynolds died before the existence of the Irish Free State. He played for the all-Ireland IFA team. Also, the others listed in this section played for both the Belfast-based IFA and the Dublin-based FAI, which both picked players from all over Ireland and called their teams 'Ireland'. These players did not play, as stated in note 2, for the 'Republic of Ireland', as that name has only been used for the football team since 1953. Indeed, the Republic was declared after their retirement. The section should be renamed 'Ireland', or 'all-Ireland', or split into 'IFA Ireland' and 'FAI Ireland'. Also, the section entitled, confusingly, 'Ireland' should be renamed 'Republic of Ireland', as per FIFA usage. Finally, Patsy Gallagher should be removed from the '(Republic of)Ireland' section, as he played for the IFA and FAI Ireland teams and never represented the Republic of Ireland. A lot of tidying-up needs to be done!
There's a lot of players in this list who were never capped for their country whilst playing for Celtic - Freddie Ljungberg and Andreas Thom immediately spring to mind, and I'm pretty sure Juninho and Tony Warner (not often you'll see that pair mentioned in the same sentence!) weren't capped whilst at Celtic either. Hell, Didier Agathe and Bobby Petta are on this list despite never EVER being capped.
I'll take a closer look sometime and delete the players I'm certain about, maybe someone else can take a look as well. ShugSty ( talk) 16:01, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of Celtic F.C. international footballers's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT ⚡ 16:12, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
