Criminal charges against Chesebro pending.

Insurrectionist Kenny Chesebro is awaiting indictment for racketeering and sedition as Trump's Co-Conspirator #5 in the January 6 indictment in Washington, D.C. for his treacherous conspiratorial attempts to subvert the will of the voting public and to suborn others into committing perjury and treason. Obama attended Harvard Law School 5 years after Chesebro. Obama graduated in 1991, Chesebro graduated in 1986, the same year as Elena Kagan. So the two were not in law school together, but at different times, each worked as research assistant to Professor Laurence Tribe at Harvard Law School. - - 23:39, 17 August 2023 (UTC) Prairieplant ( talk) 23:39, 17 August 2023 (UTC) reply
Because Chesebro continued to work with Tribe after graduating he did cross paths with Obama and they worked on at least one article together under Tribe's supervision. -- Utahredrock ( talk) 17:56, 22 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Added structure to article

I added section titles to this article. An article in the Washington Post on August 16, 2023 was my source for information about Chesebro’s life, earlier career and his more recent shift from Democratic politics to Republican. There are quotes from Laurence Tribe in that article, but I did not include them; not sure how to work them in. - - Prairieplant ( talk) 23:35, 17 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Importance scale

Since Chesebro has pleaded guilty, I suggest this article be rated of higher importance because of the possible effect of his plea on the other defendants, notably on Donald Trump. YoPienso ( talk) 22:31, 20 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Here are excerpts from a WaPo article about the possible impact on other defendants of Chesebro's plea:
Chesebro’s Plea Deal Could Undermine a Possible Trump Defense in Two Cases
"But Mr. Chesebro’s deal could present a more serious threat to Mr. Trump than the others given that he pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count that involved both the former president and some of his closest allies.
"If Mr. Chesebro were to testify that Mr. Trump’s lawsuits challenging his loss were not designed to win, but merely as ploys to sow doubt about the election, it could cut against Mr. Trump’s possible plan to use a so-called advice of counsel defense. That strategy involves blaming one’s lawyers for giving bad advice."

Possible 2nd wife

WP Source

The Washington Post reports Chesebro went with his wife. Since he and Emily Stevens divorced, this may be a second wife.

The Toobin article has the most detail on who he moved to Puerto Rico with. See: https://airmail.news/issues/2023-8-12/legal-weasel Utahredrock ( talk) 21:02, 21 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Talk advice

I assume good faith too. Moving your section here because I was clarifying what I was saying as you were typing.

Hi! Not because I should, but because I sincerely believe it, I assume you are working in the very best of faith. I appreciate your skill and care in editing Wikipedia.
Nonetheless, this new section on talk isn't clear. I know what it's about, but nobody else would be able to figure it out.
You've now removed the note from the article, but left "second wife" in the text. We do not know if Chesebro is presently married, or if so, to whom. We have no basis to mention a "second wife" in Wikipedia's voice.
My suggestions:
  1. Just delete the reference to the wife accompanying him. This would be the simplest, but does leave out the detail that he's apparently accompanied by woman. Another article reports someone knocking and a woman's voice calling out, "Ken?" (I've used up my free articles at Airmail and don't want to give them my email address, so I can't check this.)
  2. Properly re-insert my note: The Washington Post reports Chesebro went with his wife. Since he and Emily Stevens divorced, this may be a second wife.
  3. Leave it alone and let another editor come along and work on it.
This is the sentence referred to: "Gloria Werle, the firm’s chief operating officer, wrote that Chesebro was 'heading up our new Law & Motions Department' and that he and his wife were relocating to Puerto Rico, where some of the partners live."

Agree with #1 above

I agree with number one. I don't think we should reference the wife moving with him to Puerto Rico since it's 1) unclear if it's true which Washington Post asserts 2) it's not clear who the alledged wife is 3) Though Toobin's piece makes it seem clear that it's not his first wife.-- Utahredrock ( talk) 21:33, 21 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Also, all of this speculation about who moved with him to Puerto Rico--if anyone--should be in the personal section, not a section titled "career after Jan 6". Currently there's just not solid info. It's confusing to say he divorced in 2016 then moved with his wife 6 or so years later. Of course that's possible . . . but per the Toobin piece he didn't move there with his first wife.-- Utahredrock ( talk) 21:50, 21 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Here's the relevant section from the Toobin/Airmail article

Around his 60th birthday, Chesebro began courting a young woman, providing trips around the world, including an extended one to Paris and London to celebrate her 21st birthday. According to the family friend, the couple has since married. (Chesebro, through his lawyer, declined to answer questions about his marital status or anything else.)-- Utahredrock ( talk) 21:54, 21 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Thank you for all your comments and for this excerpt! I'm out of editing time for now. I just removed the wife and hope you or someone adds something about the mystery woman in the personal section. Totally agree the wife didn't belong in the career section. cheers! YoPienso ( talk) 22:10, 21 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Importance scale U.S. and Politics

Chesebro has been identified as the key architect of the fake electors scheme that was used by the Trump campaign to change the results of the 2020 election.

I asked about content and importance ratings here, and two kind editors bumped them up a notch. The importance rating was only for Trump, though, and imo should also be raised for US and Politics. It looks like we could do it ourselves. YoPienso ( talk) 18:16, 22 October 2023 (UTC) reply
