What is the difference between Integral and Supramental Yoga? Did Sri Aurobindo teach two paths of Yoga which are completely unrelated? if not, then the articles should be merged. Sfacets 23:56, 29 November 2006 (UTC) reply

Both terms are used and mean the same thing. And although Sri Aurobindo did occaisonally refer to "Supramental Yoga" - see http://intyoga.online.fr/draftpaz.htm - he much more frequently used the term "Integral Yoga". So definitely the two articles should be merged. M Alan Kazlev 23:52, 30 November 2006 (UTC) reply

Importance? Context?

This article lacks information for the reader new to "integral yoga" on 1) why integral yoga is encyclopedically notable - e.g. how many people practice it? where in the world is in practiced? how seriously do its practitioners take it? 2) the context of integral yoga - e.g. what exactly its relationship to other kinds of yoga? or to hinduism?. A criticism section would be good too. At the moment, the article reads like a opaque jargon-heavy promotional guide Bwithh 04:47, 9 December 2006 (UTC) reply

Subjects are related, but the subject in itself was not called so by the Sri Aurobindo. Would it muddle the subject, bringing confusion to the Integral yoga article (as it contains various interpretation of followers, others of Sri Aurobindo), or does it enrich the material of Integral yoga, complicated as it already is. Evolution is teleology

Kind of skeptical on adding this as teleology definition is very narrow, while Sri Aurobindo says is much vaster, What sri Aurobindo mentions is that the material has potentiality to evolve that is different from teleology of information being already present Shrikanthv ( talk) 07:46, 5 October 2015 (UTC) reply

"Teleological" also refers to philosophy, and people like Bergson. I'll think it over, okay? Best regards, Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 09:09, 5 October 2015 (UTC) reply

The goal of Integral yoga

I believe the following does not properly summarise and only takes a line out of a large corpus body of work:

"In integral yoga, the goal is twofold: to become aware of the Divine, as the unity of the One, but also the unity in the diversity of all that exists; and to attain liberation by permanent contact with and dwelling in the Divine, the transformation of the lower being into "the human image of the divine," and the liberation of consciousness from the compulsions of the ego. (Sri Aurobindo, The Synthesis of Yoga, pp.47-48)

It would be interesting to discuss and then put this back to main page for discussion Shrikanthv ( talk) 06:14, 6 October 2015 (UTC) reply

Okay, any ideas? Sources? What's missing? Meanwhile, I'll put it back; it does add info on Aurobindo, and meanwhile we can search for improvements. Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 06:49, 6 October 2015 (UTC) reply

Here are some sources with a neat summary of Aurobindo's levels of Being:

JJ I would rather suggest a westerner point of view in these matters, as I see the others can be making things narrower. Here is my suggestion: Satpre, Sri Aurobindo, or the adventure of consciousness. I would personally recommend this book to you before you go into other books on integral yoga.
Regarding the goal, possible this ?
"A key precept is that one cannot separate the physical from the spiritual. We are living, spiritual beings, whether we recognize it or not. The goal is to integrate the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of ourselves. Hence the practice of integral yoga to reunite “the infinite in the finite, the timeless in the temporal and the transcendent with the immanent”

Roll-back

In response to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Integral yoga, I've rolled-back the article to my last version of february 2017, as it is much clearer. Sorry Shrikanthv, but given the reception of this article, I think this is better. Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 06:17, 10 June 2021 (UTC) reply

Same again, Shrikanthv, yet more view from inside, giving the reader no clue of the history, practice, reception or anything else of use, just yet more uncited Aurobindo-spiel. Imagine visiting a page on, say, Wicca, and finding a mass of material for practitioners ... it's not acceptable here. Chiswick Chap ( talk) 15:15, 26 April 2022 (UTC) reply
