-- Notification of seemingly inacurate information regarding the relationship between Merloni Eletrodomestici and Hotpoint -- I worked for Hotpoint from 2004. We were told that Merloni had owned a portion of Hotpoint for a long time, and due to Hotpoint's desperate financial position, they had purchased the remaining share of Hotpoint for a very small sum of money. All the paperwork we had (I was a service engineer) was in the name of Merloni Eletrodomestici, if a customer wished to pay for a repair by cheque, it had to be made out to Merloni Eletrodomestici, I was paid by Merloni Eletrodoestici, and my manager told me that when the Italians came over occasionally, he had to attend meetings in Peterborough where the people from Merloni were shouting (literally shouting) at the Hotpoint managers for their poor performance. I saw or heard nothing that ever indicated that Hotpoint owned Merloni, the reality was quite the reverse.

i.) “In June 2017, a Hotpoint FF175BP fridge freezer was found to have triggered the Grenfell Tower fire in London that killed 79 people.[9][10]”
The Grenfell Tower Inquiry has been tasked with examining “the immediate cause or causes of the fire” (as stated in point 1.a of the inquiry’s Terms of Reference: https://www.grenfelltowerinquiry.org.uk/about/terms-of-reference). The Grenfell Tower Inquiry is ongoing and has not reached its conclusions on Phase 1 of proceedings, which concern the immediate cause or causes of the fire (as noted by the Chairman in a statement on December 12, 2018: https://www.grenfelltowerinquiry.org.uk/sites/default/files/inline-files/Chairman%20Statement%20121218.pdf). Various witnesses have given evidence to the inquiry relating to the possible causes and origin of the fire. Prof Niamh Nic Daeid is the expert commissioned by the inquiry to provide the report on “the origin and cause of the fire in flat 16, Grenfell Tower which occurred on the morning of the 14th June 2017”. Her final report, published on November 28, 2018 states: “On the basis of the available evidence, it is not possible to determine the cause of the initial fire within flat 16, Grenfell Tower on the 14th June 2017. The statement, noted above, on the Hotpoint Wikipedia page is, therefore, premature and in contempt of the inquiry proceedings. I would urge the Wikipedia community to update this section to reflect the current situation - that the cause and origin of the Grenfell Tower fire has not yet been established. The Metropolitan Police did state on June 23, 2017 that it had evidence to suggest the fire started in a fridge freezer. Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said: "We now have expert evidence that the fire was not started deliberately - the fire started in a fridge freezer - the make and model is a Hotpoint FF175BP.” ( https://www.buzzfeed.com/saraspary/hotpoint-is-asking-people-who-own-the-same-fridge-freezer) However, this statement was made in the context of an ongoing investigation that was in its infancy and Det Supt McCormack clearly said in the same statement: “Our investigation is seeking to establish how the fire started.” She also stated that further examination of the appliance was taking place in conjunction with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Those investigations were subsequently carried out and found no evidence of any fault with the Hotpoint model FF175BP or its colour variant FF175BG. They also confirmed that the models fully complied with all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements. I respectfully submit that this line on the Hotpoint Wikipedia page should be updated to more accurately reflect the wording of the statement from the Metropolitan Police and to provide context that it has been superseded by other investigations by the UK Government and the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
ii.) “A total of 64,000 units of the same model were manufactured between 2006 and 2009 by Indesit under the Hotpoint brand before moving over to Whirlpool.[11] “Customers who believed they own either the FF175BP or the FF175BG models have been advised to contact the company for further safety checks. According to the Hotpoint website: ‘We have been made aware that the recent fire at Grenfell Tower in West London may have originated in a Hotpoint branded fridge freezer, manufactured between March 2006 and July 2009, model numbers FF175BP (white) and FF175BG (graphite).’[12][13][9]”
Please note that this section includes outdated information. It is correct that in June 2017, as a precautionary measure, Whirlpool did invite consumers who owned models FF175BP and FF175BG to contact them and register their details so they could be reached if it was necessary to provide further information. However, this advice was updated in May 2018 when investigations (referenced above) into these models by the UK government and Whirlpool concluded. Two separate investigations were undertaken - one led by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and a second led by product safety experts at Whirlpool Corporation. Both investigations independently found no evidence of any fault with the model FF175BP or its colour variant FF175BG. They also confirmed that the models fully complied with all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements. Based on these findings, BEIS advised there is no reason to undertake a recall or any other kind of corrective action, and confirmed that there is no reason to change the advice previously given to consumers that they may continue to use these appliances as normal. Therefore consumers have been advised they need take no further action. There is a very clear problem with the "Products" section. As it stands today, it doesn't discuss any products in depth, but rehashes a portion of brand history in the above section. Either that section needs to discuss products, or whatever text has not been cover in the above section needs be moved and the Products section removed until some interested Wikipedian can sit down and write something on that topic.
