He was killed in the 1885 running of the cup. His name has been changed to Nicholson which is incorrect and also incorrectly labelled on a commemoration plaque at the racecourse. His grave at Melbourne cemetery as listed in find a grave clearly shows it as Nicolson, a name from the isle of Skye Scotland.
