A fact from Bryan Budd appeared on Wikipedia's
Main Page in the
Did you know column on 19 December 2006. The text of the entry was as follows:
|
It would appear from the details here that Bryan Budd became a VC yesterday (14 December 2006) and should now have the letters after his name. Any other views? Arcturus 14:13, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Can his citation be placed on the page? Its available at the first reference. That reference also says there were two incidents that led to the award - presumably both should be mentioned? Thanks, RHB 00:32, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Is there some way of linking to a site about or that mentions the Trust Fund contact details rather than putting the address in the text? As it stands, it could easily be changed by unscrupulous fraudsters. Even if the page is watched (which I will), there's the possibility that the address could be changed and not noticed for a while. The Sun page [1] gives the address 81.157.197.111 12:21, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Was it Scunthorpe or Belfast? There seems to be conflicting information. Arcturus 17:20, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
hi my name is martin bell.
bryan was born in be;belfast his mothers maiden name is ann bell.i happen on this article form the site people from belfast. iknow this information to be correct as iam honouired to be his cousin.he has a twin sister tracy and an older brother how is still in the army.
This line In May 2002, Budd passed his section commander's battle course with distinction, and was due to be promoted to platoon Sergeant. leaves me with a number of questions. Was he due to be promoted to Sergeant following the course, and if so why did he then get sent to AFC without the extra stripe? Or was he due to be promoted last year?
If the former then it needs exploration, and if the latter then the phrasing needs worked on to make a distinction.

After doing battle with the horrible search interface on the London Gazette website, I managed to track down the relevant supplement containing the citation for Cpl Budd. In some senses this would be preferable to the MOD press release, sicne as I understand it, it is the "gazetting" of the award which makes it official, however, it's a pdf which means the Acrobat plug-in is required to view it. I've added it to External links for now. For anyone that's interested, doing an Advanced search on the supplements via http://www.gazette-online.co.uk/advancedSearch.asp?webType=0&Referrer=Supplements and entering Victoria as the search term was what finally brought me success, a similar tactic with different date criteria might well be successful for other awards (or try "George" for a GC). The section on this is taken verbatim from the source. Is GNN public domain? If not, we cannot use it, unless they have oddly chosen to use the GFDL as a licence. Johnleemk | Talk 20:30, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
What clasp is on the GSM awarded to Cpl Budd VC? His career timescale indicates Northern Ireland? Gavin Lisburn ( talk) 22:49, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
