How different is this article than the Roosevelt Corrolary to the Monroe Doctrine?

OK, I usually just add comments and help complete it as well.

I did a minor copy edit myself. Things we need to do...

• We need to fix the positioning of the sources. They should all really come at the end of the full sentence. Some people put them after the comma but I'm not a fan of that either. They really should come at the end of the sentence like I said. If the source is meant to be for a specific word or part of the sentence but quote marks around that part and then add the source at the end of the sentence.
  • For example, Historians viewed Roosevelt as "a very mean bully" before he became emperor of the world.[5] — Realist ² 17:30, 28 August 2008 (UTC) reply

• There needs to be better formatting of the notes. Current note #2 by "Beale 1957" is good. The author and year are wikilinked and the page numbers are normal written. However notes like #4 and #5 are different. The page number has been included in the blue linking. It doesn't even clearly identify a page number as it has no "p.". I really couldn't find any reference but I saw it live, it was during the US election campaign of 2008-09 but I remember him saying "speak softly and carry a big stick" when he was asked about Pakistan's role in war against terrorism. I always thought the proverb meant having military capabilities, but negotiating with other parties in a non threatening way. Just because Roosevelt quoted the proverb, doesn't mean he followed it to the letter. after all proverbs are general sayings, and it really isn't meant to be specific. 67.176.160.47 ( talk) 05:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC) reply

Wouldn't it be worth mentioning that the quote is parodied in some Peanuts cartoons (Snoopy features as The Fearless Leader)? "...four days before the assassination of President William McKinley who died eight days later..."

There are two problems with this quote. The first is that the quote does not apply to the Cuba situation, rather Roosevelt was writing about a dispute between Great Britain and Germany with respect to Venezuela. Its usage here is WP:Synth. The second is that the quote itself has been cherry picked. What Roosevelt actually wrote was, “If any South American country misbehaves against any European country let the European country spank it.” There are multiple articles here on the Mighty Wik where this quote is misused.
