This article reads, "...and the only time in American history a sitting president was under fire in combat." If I'm not mistaken, Madison came under fire during the War of 1812. The article on Fort Stevens (not the battle, the fort), mentioned Madison as well as Lincoln. I have no sources available to correct this, but if one does, please add it.
