It is not clear when "AION" is used, whether it is referring to non-arteritic AION or AION in general. The current layout of the topic, where it constantly switches back and forth between NAION and AAION does not help with this. Perhaps changing the layout to first discuss AAION completely and then NAION completely would make this more clear. This would be helpful to people who search for this page, since it is likely that they are looking for information on one type of AION and not the other in many cases. Earlier revisions of this topic were closer to this arrangement; they could be built on to incorporate later changes added in the newer layout.

Feb 2, 2006 I have split the article into 2, placing AAION as a separate article. No information has been deleted, though there have been some rearrangements to increase clarity. Please review and comment on these changes. Though not a perfect solution, I believe this is an improvement from the last arrangement that alternated between AION and AAION throughout the article. -JK

NAION linked to Coronary Artery Disease

I was diagnosed with NAION in my left eye 5 years ago. I had a series of heart attacks 2 1/2 years ago, followed by a second NAION episode in my right eye. Only my optic neurologist seems to think there is a link. Most cardiologists have not even heard of NAION. What does the research show? Is there a verifiable connection between the two? 184.151.118.101 ( talk) 05:34, 18 November 2013 (UTC)John Carswell reply
