A friend of mine has an interesting shirt with a colorful display on the front readin "Amoco Renegades", and the Amoco corporate logo on the back, so I looked up this article to find more information, but didn't see anything. A Google search pointed me to this page and a bunch of really sloppy and incomplete pages, but it's difficult to patch together anything encyclopedic. I'd always assumed that the Torch in the Amoco symbol was taken from the Indiana State Flag (Amoco having once been Standard Oil of Indiana), but can't find any definitive proof of this. It's strongly suggested that the first Standard Oil of Indiana emblem used a torch that is very suggestive of the State Flag of Indiana. This page: http://www.waterwinterwonderland.com/flinn012004.asp says that this is the case and refers to a BP page concerning the history of the torch symbol, but the BP link is no longer valid. Amoco Corporation is not defunct, but continues to exist as a subsidiary of BP under the name of BP Corporation North America Inc. (Source: Missouri Secretary of State). Stating that a company is defunct when it still exists, as an independent company or not, is wrong. I have seen this unprofessional error on other pages in the past. This article should be changed to reflect that Amoco still exists as a subsidiary. Go to the Amoco Corporation page here on th MSoS website to see clear evidence that the company still exists. Amoco Corporation is not defunct, but continues to exist as a subsidiary of BP under the name of BP Corporation North America Inc. (Source: Missouri Secretary of State). Stating that a company is defunct when it still exists, as an independent company or not, is wrong. I have seen this unprofessional error on other pages in the past. This article should be changed to reflect that Amoco still exists as a subsidiary. Go to the Amoco Corporation page here on th MSoS website to see clear evidence that the company still exists.
