I'm not sure this is correct

To start with, the term has been in use since the 1930s, and I'm not at all sure the Tipper was "most associated" with the term at any time.

Further, the definition offered in the rambling lede is quite at odds with the way I had come to understand it, which more along the lines of "all policies, no matter how broad, are compared to local conditions".

So in the example used in the body, for instance, the jobs bill is a universal issue that has nothing specifically to do with Peoria, but by reframing it in those terms he make a national issue very local.

The definition offered in the lede seems to be able to be read in this way, but might also be read to say that the only thing of interest to voters is local issues. While that is true of the definition as I understand it, it is not the primary concept by any means.

Older than that

I remember from the Ken Burns documentary, The Civil War (TV series) a statesman or general was quoted saying " All politics is local." toward the conclusion of the series. I shall get back with you. • Q ^ # o • 20:50, 26 July 2016 (UTC) reply
