According to this page, this article seems to have numerous factual errors.
1986 sounds like the right date for the Communicator, I seem to remember it being mentioned in the news columns of Acorn User around that time. 1982 is definitely too early: the BBC Micro was barely out at that stage (and Acorn had serious manufacturing and availability difficulties with them back then), let alone the Electron.
