Founding date of Abbey of Kells?

So was the Abbey founded in the 9th century CE as stated in the first paragraph of the page, or in 554 CE as stated in the second paragraph?

It seems this article is almost entirely about the book of Kells. I would like to know more about the Abbey itself, when it was abandoned, what purpose it served in the region, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.159.3 ( talk) 08:31, 22 June 2010 (UTC) reply
