It is impossible to have Scott Speed finihs the race in 11th as he was on the same lap as the race winner, that would make him the last finisher on lap 57, which is 9th.Once again I have send email to formula1.com to make correction as in the past they didn't do that mistake Andreasu 05:38, 03 April 2006.
- I thought the same when updating my site, but the official results from the FIA says that he finished 11th. That's the official result, so we can't argue, unless you have a more official source? Manipe 21:28, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- From formula1.com "Speed finished eighth but had 25 seconds added to his race time for lack of attention to yellow flags" (which you can also read in the notes in the article). That's why his position moved from 9th to 11th. -- Fred Bradstadt 21:32, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, according to pitpass.com, Coulthard got in the points due to Speed's penalty – which indicates that Speed originally finished 8th – not 9th... -- Fred Bradstadt 21:39, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I am aware of that, but I'm trying to get more information because it makes no sense to place him behind drivers who made less laps - if the penalty was just a 25 secs add-on to his race time, of course. A few season back Villeneuve received a 25 secs penality and he wasn't placed back further as he was placed as the last driver on the same lap as the race winner. Andreasu 08:19, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- The penalty put him 78 seconds behind Alonso, and Fernando's last lap will have taken more than 78 seconds, so he wasn't a full lap down, and 9th seems to be the correct classification. -- MartinUK 22:56, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- I can assure you that in the past no driver was placed down a lap because of a penalty. I am trying to find those races. That would be a first in Formula 1 a driver goes back a lap by a penalty. Never has happened before since 1950. Andreasu 8:49, 3 Aril 2003.

FIA currently states 9th place, 57 laps, back by 78.817 secs. As the fast lap was 1:26.045 (86 secs), that really makes more sense. (Oops, there I go again, trying to make sense of the politics in F1...) Now that FIA has stated 9th, but F1 still claims 11th, (but 57 laps? More that Button and Albers...) What now? -

- I have corrected the FIA by sending an email to them, and they have made correction but the formula1.com hasn't yet. Do you people on here really need help of the official race results as most the time data is actually incorrect.

- Please refer to Wikipedia:No original research. If FIA publish an incorrect result, then the correct procedure is to contact them to correct it, then update the page after they confirm the mistake. There is always an off chance that FIA might actualy have some unclear reason for a result that looks like a mistake, which they might clarify if you contact them. -- Barberio 18:59, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

- Well just log onto their web pages (FIA and Formula1.com) to see the race results have been changed which clearly can been seen Andreasu 12:33, 13 April 2006

Someone with the knowledge needed should explain (in a footnote or whatever) the "9R" listing for Button in the main 2006 season page's tables. I assume it has to do with the special incident/decision which forced him to retire with just one lap to go---a disputed decision yet to be arbitrated upon at the time of this writing, AFAIK -- Wernher 23:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Renault's director of engineering Pat Symonds has backed Honda's decision to ask Jenson Button to not finish the Australian Grand Prix.
Button looked set to finish in fifth place when his engine blew up spectacularly just a few metres from the end of the race.
Although Button claimed he could have not made it to the finish line, the team had already asked him to not cross it in order to be able to use a fresh engine without penalty at the San Marino Grand Prix.
And, despite giving away three points, Symonds believes the decision could be rewarded at the Imola race.
"It was an intelligent thing to do - they gave away three points, but it was probably a good thing to do," said Symonds.
Button finished in third place in last year's San Marino Grand Prix, before an irregularity was found in his car's fuel system and the Briton lost his result. Andreasu 11:04, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- My thought is we should not clutter up this year end driver table with all of this info. For consistancy it should be just a "9". In previous races years where the driver completes enough laps to be a finisher but is not running at the finish the table doesn't mention this, it just has the finish position.
