Link to Template:Rugby League Seasons

Just a thought, but the template at the bottom of the page showing all the seasons by year still has these wartime years in red because the page has not been created. Should there not be a way to connect these via some redirect one way or the other, so that viewers of other pages are able to come to these pages via the template. It would just tidy up a loose end IMHO. Rimmer1993 ( talk) 17:54, 23 November 2011 (UTC) reply

Very good idea, but unfortunately I cannot find the way to do it, can you? Alanfromwakefield ( talk) 09:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC) reply

Done using redirect command after creating the missing pages. Thanks for joining in the Rugby League project as well. We need all the help we can get. Rimmer1993 ( talk) 18:20, 1 December 2011 (UTC) reply

Thank you. I wish I was clever like you. Please would you like to do the same with the first world war league tables Alanfromwakefield ( talk) 10:48, 2 December 2011 (UTC) reply

Done. Rimmer1993 ( talk) 13:46, 3 December 2011 (UTC) reply

Initial review

Lead

  • "The Challenge Cup competition was not played.", perhaps worth adding more context for this. The Challenge Cup article states that this is is the only season outside World War I that the competition was not held. Perhaps something along the lines of, "The Challenge Cup competition, traditionally run alongside the league, was not played for the first time since 1919"?
    •  Done

Planned season

Suspension of the League

Yorkshire competition

  • "The winter of 1939–40", the season wouldn't incorporate the winter of 1940 so would "the winter of 1939" be more appropriate?
    •  Reworded: Been a bit more specific about start date although the source added is entitled The Severe Winter of 1939–40
  • Is there a source for the final table?
    • Not a contemporary one which is what I have been looking for. I have a modern one from this page which is a normally reliable amateur source. The latest contemporary table I have located in a really reliable source is 14 May 1940 in The Guardian [1] by which date some teams had one game left to play so the table can also be reconstructed from that with the remaining results added in. Per WP:CALC I don't think the table is OR as the various sources can be attributed i.e. the last printed version plus the references to the remaining results and the numbers of outstanding games are such that it's routine calculation. The omission from contemporary newspapers such as the Yorkshire Post, Hull Daily Mail etc I think is entirely understandable, we are talking about the weeks immediately following the invasion of France so newspapers were far more concentrating on war news and as the text says the season sort of fizzled out. The Play-off Final was played and nobody really seemed to care about 2 or 3 unplayed games which is understandable in context of the threat of invasion.

Championship play-off

Representative matches

  • The England and Wales national sides are unlinked in the first paragraph but then linked in the second. I would move the links to the first mention, per MOS:DUPLINK.
    •  Done

References

  • All references are behind a paywall that I can't access but they are all impeccably formatted, so no real concerns there.

Overall, very little I can find to be concerned about. The subject matter is dealt with in impressive detail and is very well presented. Placed on hold for minor issues listed above. Kosack ( talk) 08:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC) reply

All addressed, thanks for taking on the review. Nthep ( talk) 15:38, 26 September 2018 (UTC) reply
